Best tail tidy-USA?

Postby ttraynor » Thu May 25, 2017 2:52 pm

Picking up white 2017 tomorrow and so it begins: Best tail tidy? And let's get some smaller turn indicators too.

Suggestions?

Thanks!

I have a brand new Evotech tail tidy for sale but its for my 2016. I'm not sure if it fits the 17.

I just ordered a PowerParts tail tidy for my black 2017 SDR. Supposedly it will be here tomorrow, and I'll post up pictures then.

I actually quite like the indicators on the 2017 bike. Vast improvement on the 990s. I went with the Evotech tidy. Very clever bit of engineering, uses the original indicators and number plate light. All the wires are hidden within the tidy itself and it uses the original wiring so no joining or splicing wires. Very happy with it.

I don't care for the Yoshimura on mine. The LED license plate lights in it failed less than 6 months after it was installed, and will cost over $90 to replace. So now I get a license plate light error on the display every time I start the bike. Stupid.

On the other hand, the Custom LED 1290 integrated tail light is flawless. I really, really like it. Looks clean, fits perfect, plug and play, it is BRIGHT, and the strobe flash when braking is a nice safety factor.

I bought the KTM Powerparts 'tail tidy' and like it. It is easily installed, strongly constructed and plug-n-play electrically. It extends rearward a little more than others to clear KTM side bags and works just fine. 8)

Went with Evo-tech. It's tight and right.

The Evo Tech is really nice, but for those of us living in the U.S., the turn signal wires are too short and you need to splice in some extra length. Works great once that is done. If you have a high rise pipe, like the Austin Racing GP1, though, it will melt the right turn signal. If you go that rout, buy an LED tail light from Custom LED and install the Yoshimura tail tidy. Nice and clean set up. The reason I switched from the Evo Tech is because once you remove the turn signals, you're left with ugly, gaping holes where they used to be...

I bought an integrated taillight, removed the tail mount entirely, and relocated the plate with a bracket I machined myself to between the rear pegs.

So the 2017 still comes out with standard indicators in the US.
Is there something in you design rules that doesn't allow LEDs?

Evo Tech has worked great for me. As previously mentioned, the wires were too short. I emailed them and they sent me out extension wires next day at no charge. Great customer service!!!
