Photobucket - photo hosting

Postby Sarasota_Steve » Sun Jul 09, 2017 9:45 pm

Hello,

I came upon this article https://finance.yahoo.com/news/big-lesson-learned-photobuckets-ransom-images-debacle-191026772.html and as a Photobucket user, I'm waiting to get my email stating that I need to change to a $400/year paid account or loose the pics I have being hosted there.

I believe we are going to start seeing posts in Superduke.net with dead pictures' links. What other hosting website are you guys using?

If you come across a post with dead links, would you be so kind as to send the original poster a private message and let him/her know?

Thank you kindly,
Ride Hard,

I am sorry to say that I have been using that site and now I have heaps of dead pics in my "how to do it" posts AND I don't know what to do about it.
I tried to check my account and my screen was bombarded with add bullshit, it was so bad that I couldn't even see the pics I had uploaded - I hope the feckers go broke.
How do I fix this so my old posts still show pics?
Sorry but I'm not very good with this stuff!

I think you have to rehost on a new photo sharing site and then update your original threads with the new picture address.
Could be a long process to fix...
Such a shame as many many websites & forums will be hit, the home wrencher will lose lots of resources. :(

That would be a huge task because theres a lot of stuff there - what a shame - thanks to photofucket.
Their policy changes must make a huge difference to online content. I think superduke dot net is the best website on the planet because I am not bombarded with popup advertising every 2 seconds
I might delete my photofuckup account in protest even though it wouldn't make a difference…..
Sorry to those who can no longer see images in my "how to" posts.
its a ripoff for a lot of people………..

Man,

I frigging called it. One day after posting the original post, I got an email from Photofookit and my account is frozen.

I'll try to remove and merge the pics to another hosting site and hope to re-assemble my posts with embedded images.

This is going to make the site look like shit. Damn.

I wonder if it's worth not deleting all our PB accounts....

There is a chance that all the negative press could make PB reverse their decision in time. No harm in leaving your account intact on the slim chance I suppose, even though it would feel good to hit that delete account button...

imgur is great alternative, the issue with dropbox is once it's been viewed so much they do the same thing photocunt is doing since they state they are not a hosting site.

See http://www.superduke.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=27451 for using imgur instead of photobucket.
