Group Deal: Bespoke SD grab rail

Postby mannyroad » Thu Apr 11, 2013 9:45 pm

Is anyone interested in a grab rail for their SD that works with non-standard exhausts. There isn't one available on the market, apart from the Ventura one (doesn't look so good and only works with OEM exhausts) at aroud £146. So I developed one for my 07 SD which I think looks better and works with my Akras. See photos.

I would be happy to make more for forum members but would need orders for at least 10 to be cost effective. They would be £98.95 GBP plus P&P and would come powder coated satin black, or other colour at an extra cost of £20 GBP. The price would include a modified seat lock keeper plate, modified seat hooks and shims (now included in the price)to ensure easy seat removal and a fitting instruction sheet. I think the sub-frame is the same for 05-10 models but you will need to check.

The only two mods needed to the bike are the drilling of two 6.6mm holes in the subframe seat lock plate for additional mounting points and a slight trimming/shaving of some of the plastic moulding on the underside of the seat.

If you would like to order a grab rail please email me at: btaylor178@o2.co.uk

If you have any questions, please email me and I shall answer them asap.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi All,

Just checked my thread to see there are a number who are interested in a grab rail. I am in the process of taking deposits at this very moment. I can extend the number made if I get a deposit of £40 to secure.

Please email me at btaylor178@o2.co.uk if you want to add your name and get deposit instructions.

Shipping costs to UK only is £10.

Please check shipping costs to your location if you are outside UK as these will be higher. (The weight would be about 2kg and the package dims would be approx. 40cm x 35cm x 5cm.) Currently it's about £30 to USA and £40 to Oz.

I have just got a quote for producing the modified seat hooks in stainless steel, to avoid having to file up yours. If you want these too them they would be an additional £3.95 a pair. Please let me know.

Cheers

This is the first time I miss my dual seat.
Nice job - I would be all over this except for the above.

Have just received samples of the modified seat hooks; these will be produced in stainless steel. Fitted them to the seat and tried them with grab rail fitted and seat comes off no problems. These will be available for an additional £3.95 and save the trouble of filing up the original hooks to clear grab rail and sub-frame lugs.

Update

Grab rail plates being made at moment and am off to drop off sample grab rail plate to tube bender tomorrow as bending template, so things should start moving there too early next week. Coming along nicely I'd say

By the way, if anyone is still after a grab rail please get in touch by emailing me at btaylor178@o2.co.uk

Sorry guys, there's been a few days delay due to tube supplier not delivering materials to tube bender and not letting me know they couldn't deliver for another week or so. Anyway, I've re-sourced the material and it's now with the tube benders so hopefully the rails will be ready next week. Will keep you posted.

By the way, I've had some shims made that will allow you to fine tune the seat hooks to ensure good fit/seat removal on your bikes. These will be included with the hooks. You may or may not need them depending on your bike.

Well,
the rails are with the welder at the moment and hopefully should be with the powder coater later this week. There's still a chance to get one of these grab rails at the forum price. After that I will put the one's not yet sold on Ebay but they will cost more to cover Ebay and Paypal fees (and a small profit for my troubles :) )

So don't wait, email me now at : btaylor178@o2.co.uk

Diane says it's more comfortable to hold than the Ventura. I think it looks much better!

Haven't fitted mine yet but I'm hoping it will discourage the little woman from letting her backpack rest on the Akras when we go for a ride.
Last summer we went for a blast and when we got to our luncheon date she says "Wow my clothes are so hot. I wonder how that can be? Surely
it can't be the sun?"

Anyway she'd managed to melt the material on the backpack, semi-melt the running shoes, buggered the iPhone and worst of all I had to clean
the tips of the Akras - Christ the bike could have caught fire

Are there any of these left?
Don't need it for a grab rail as much as sometime to tie a duffel bag to. 8)
