1290R vs 2007 KTM SD

Postby DFauvre » Sun Oct 04, 2015 1:13 am

I have a 2007 KMT SD with a Rottweiler airbox and Yosh pipes. The bike rips and is great fun to ride.
Negatives: heavy clutch, whole big vibrates at speed, could be faster, suspension not great over the freeway

I want:
More power, better suspension, easier clutch and brake pull, better cornering and turn in, more refinement and less buzz and feeling of being on a dirt bike on the street.

I welcome comments from those who have owned or extensively ridden both

And, what is the difference between the 2015 SD and SD R?

What tyres are you running? Try a Q2/3 they have a little taller profile and almost fall instead of turn.

As for vibrations? This is the smoothest V twin I've ever been on and you can make the suspension better by adjusting the rebound dampening, that's probably whats making the ride harsh when you're going fast.
08 SD, Mivv Suono, Rottweiler airbox. Current map: One some guy sent me from the internet.

Thanks for the suggestions.
What's aQ2/3? tyre brand? Will try.
How do I get the clutch and brake to be easier to pull?
Less buzz over all?

The bike is pretty amazing, I am torn between fixing it up and getting a new one.

I would like to have a suspension that doesn't bang me up as much.

The 2015 SD is on a shelf right next to the unicorns. :P The SDR can be had from most KTM dealerships or in the used market.

Dunlop Q2 and the newer version of that tyre is called the Q3, both are imo great tyres however the rears dont last that long.

Thanks for the info on the tyres. Has no one on this forum ridden both bikes? Hard to believe. As to the other comments, only a coward says shit in a forum.

There is a KTM guy or two or three that has or has had or will have again both versions of the super duke. Expand your horizons and travel outside your posts once in a while, its good for you. If you search Q2 or Q3 along with the word tyre you may come up with some results that will once again expand your knowledge. From the bit I've been able to discern from your posts, the Superduke is the bestest and the worsest bike you have ridden.
