Since the unit gets power directly from the battery, Grendel taped it up and left it alone. Both wires in the plug are positive. Grendel assumes they did this rather than run a heavier gage wire to feed the original regulator power. Since it is positive, just make sure it is well insulated.

what is the white plug you are referring to? is it on the SD harness?
is this aftermarket unit a plug and play? my stock unit failed and im not sure to replace it with a stock one.

There are three items coming out of the new regulator/rectifier. Positive and negative go directly to the battery. This is a change from the oem unit which pulls positive power from the wiring harness. The three wire regulator harness is a direct plug in to the harness.

Kick ass! I measured about 13 volts at ~5k rpms so I'm thinking I need one of these. I want to set up my data logger to record system voltage so I can see what it's doing under load.

just had a wire snap off from the regulator. Its a fat black wire and has 2 green wires inside it. it looked like it was located at the negative battery terminal but before i reconnect can anyone just confirm this for me?

what is this cable and where does it connect to

The Mosfet looks like this...............

Image

...............so you must have the OE item for which, yes, the two green cables within the black plastic sleeve are attached to the battery negative as per the wiring diagrams in the repair manual downloadable from here............

My brown plug is all melted up... Anyone know where I can order both sides of that plug?
