MRA Racing Windscreen for 1290

Postby FFlash » Sat Sep 06, 2014 8:18 pm

Totto is the one that first posted about this. He liked it.

I bought one with the hope that it would reduce the serious amount of bug splatter I get on my shield. Unfortunately it didn't make a miraculous difference in that. :-(

But, it did significantly reduce helmet buffeting at speeds >120 mph which made me very happy!

Here's a link to the MRA site: 1290 SUPER DUKE R - Racing windscreen "NRM"

Here's a photo that Totto posted:

And here are some I took off the MRA website:

I also just bought one from 4wheelonline. I agree the windshield is quite small to deflect the bugs, but hey it really looked good once installed.

I think the dark one is a little too gaudy for my taste. I'd rock the clear one, though.

(Like how glasses frames look different with clear lenses vs. tinted ones.)

Nope it won't stop the bugs but I wouldn't do without it now , although it's not the best looking thing in the world it's the best looking one so far I have seen for the 1290

I would be pretty interested in seeing my 1290 in one of our wind tunnels at work. Or having one of our fluid dynamics guys model it. It feels to me like the Puig and MRA screens sort of miss the point. I'll bet what you need is a much smaller deflector just above the cluster, instead of those monstrosities in front of the bars. I'm only guessing, but it feels to me like the existing aero already blocks two thirds of what the MRA tries to block. Neither the Puig nor the MRA integrate with the bikes styling worth beans. I had an add-on screen on my GS that clipped to the top of the factory screen. I didn't like it, but I would bet it would be just the ticket for the 1290. The trick would be getting just the right position and angle. <nerdalert>Or making it adjust angle according to speed</nerdalert>
