Dr F Memorial Ride - 12th July

Postby BigTobyD » Wed Jun 04, 2008 2:29 pm

Hi all, Plipton and I have been discussing a memoral ride in Dr F's memory, to take in some of his favourite roads in his neck of the woods. I'm specially keen to do this as I won't be able to make his funeral.

The date we have come up with provisionally is 12th July. No more plans than that at this stage, this is to gauge interest and gather ideas from everyone.

Ideally we want as big a turnout as possible, give the old reprobate a proper send off. With that in mind I'd like to link up with any other forums he was involved with to see if we can put something special together.

Anyways, all thoughts and feelings more than welcome......

If you change the date i'll happily make it.... preferably later... even 1 weekend is fine for me.

Hi Toby, how long/hard a ride do you reckon it is from our neck of the woods (well I'm kent but close enough to west sussex in relation to Leeds)?

I'm interested but with the new baby and everything it's quite hard for me to plan this far ahead as I suspect it'll be at least one night away for me which would leave the other half on her own so I'll have to see how stressed out she is at the time.
Longest ride on one wheel, 8 miles....

....if only I could do it on my SD.

Count me in! :D I have never been on my SD into Yorks area but know some great roads in Lincs especialy around Cadwell Park.

Im 40mins away from Squires and if anyone wants to pitch a tent in my garden for the weekend (i only have a small 2 bed) or stay at this place one mile down the road www.forestpines.co.uk I have room for 5-6 bikes in my garage (made sure the garage was big though  ) and plenty of beers and a fooking great big BBQ!

Let me know if you need anything from me can certainly organise a good route!

Would say 3hour ride from M25 straight up A1 to Squires.

Fook me I just looked it up on Autoroute.

It's over 600 miles return trip plus another 50 - 100 on the ride out. I think I'll have to pass on this one, but I'll be there in spirit (and beer and cider). :D

Count me in, its only 400 miles for me :) . Been to the Dales/Lake District many times on bikes, hopefully these areas were Dr F's favourite neck of the woods?. Maybe meet or end up at Squires Cafe Bar where Tony last visited and leave some sort of memorial there?

SuperDan, sounds like you might have just landed yourself a job there mate! Thanks for pitching in as I know bugger all about up north land apart from that it's grim

It'll be a long old ride, I'm thinking I'll probably ride up on the Saturday morning early, chill for an hour when I get there and then do a decent ride round DrF's hood in his memory. Then I'll ride back on the Sunday when the hangover from having a few drinks in his honour Saturday night has passed!

Sure we can get at least a handful of us together to make a proper show of it.

Sadly, I'm in Europe, so I can't make it to Tony's funeral. The rideout is an excellent idea, the 12th July is fine for me, but I'd do my best to attend whatever the date.

Grim? that what we tell you Southerners so you stay away from our excellent roads and sexy women!! :D

Will sort a route out how long do you want it? it will involve Squires and a ride out to Whitby as a must.

Think meeting around 1000-1030hrs? Give you guys a chance to get up here.

If I'm recovered from my wrist surgery I'll have a ride in his honour on the 12th from this side of the pond.

I'll spill some tequila in Dr. F's honor on that day, and wish I was in line with my SD bretheren on July 12. Cheers for Beers!!

Way to go, Toby.
I asked my dad if I could grow up & ride motorcycles like he did. "Son", he said, "you can't do both."

Though I can't make the ride physically since I am in the USA, he will be in my thoughts on the 12th...I will be out on the bike on carving the local canyons in his memory. If there is anyone in Utah interested in joining me let me know.

I'll be there.

Now is it the BLACK Adventure or the ORANGE SD?

There's a quandary!

I'm over with a mate on his Gixxer thou. I'll check with him if he wants to do the trip. As long as I can get to my ferry at Weymouth at 9AM on Sunday it should be OK.

Joe dont worry will take lots of pics for you! will carry your sprit pillion if you dont mind the seat cowl. Have dropped the hint via cut-and-paste-the-one-i-want-email to my girlfriend to buy me a helmet camera setup for my Birthday (it was that or wheelie school) so will have some some nice footage of Toby's one wheeled antics, and some fine Yorkshire roads! If it clears up today think im off to go find a route!

This is also 5 miles from my house with a pub next door http://www.premierinn.com/pti/hotelInfo ... elId=23979
