2012 rc8r test ride

Postby cheesie » Sun Aug 05, 2012 8:35 pm

had a shot on one of these yesterday only a half hour blast, my last sports bike was an rsvr, throttle was smoothe power good although I expected more, turned into corners much better than the rsvr, not as stiff as the blade I was on a month or so ago brakes awesome, suspension hard to judge as I got thrown clean out of the seat quite a few times which also made me slow down, comfort not to bad but my sdr felt complient and arm chair like afterwords biggest complaint my balls took a right bashing of the tank, if I could afford one I dont know maybe,

I have had both had tracked both.Love the duke I had all the mods. But once you track a RC8R then do some mods like a pipe and a remap you will never want to get off of it.The duke is a blast on the street but on the track the power of the RC8R will just want you to go faster. It's a great bike.
If they ever make a 1200 duke then it will be differant. Because I love the riding position of the duke.

I wait for when the 2013 RC arrives, then the 2012 gets a dumped price tag as usual, I sell my 08 and buy the twin spark, got plenty of equipment laying 'round now, 2 race fairings, set of wheels etc etc so stopping riding ktm rc's isn't the point...the only thing that could stop me is when I buy a porsche or other muscle car,not getting younger and wiser these days :D

Hate to tell you this but I doubt you will see any leftover 12's most dealers are sold out and they came out in March My friends shop got 8 which is a lot but he is a big dealer he sold them all and wish he could get 8 more. The price is going up now because the word is out how good the bike is. and dealers know there is a short supply so many are holding the line.

I am a member of a RC8 forum seems like every day we get someone that just bought one.My friends at KTM are surprized how good they are selling
The 12 price is way cheaper than the 2010 because KTM put cast wheels instead of forged and a couple of other things so the price is at the right price point so they are selling. I got mine for 14,300 +tax That price is long gone.

I don't think there will be any left overs this year. but good luck

"fortunate" the KTM RC8 ain't that popular overhere.
I had my set of issues with the bike and the first two years had an huge impact on the buying public in the low lands overhere.
A 50000km engine test didn't do much good for the street cred...bought my 08 new in 2010 I'm half distance now of the live spend
...bike is really fine now, so I'll keep an eye out on price drops anyway, maybe I can turn in my old RC8, who knows :?:

You are right bro the 09 and the 10 had bad fueling problems .Then it was a ton of money. In 2011 they changed the motor and no more fueling problems.
The bike is so much better and it's cheaper. The 09 and 10 came with forged wheels so that makes the bike a good value.

I put a set of those on my 2011. retail for those wheels is 4-5 g's The R's are still good but the resale value for the 9-10 is way down. even though they are still a good bike. once you get the fueling under control. The 11-12 is perfect.KTM made several maps for the new bike. The 9-10 did not have those and can't use them.

Bike is now in the garage.
Dripping with loveliness.
Glad I did it in the end - nearly bought a Triumph street triple but when I turned up to do the deal they dropped what they were prepared to pay for the GTR.
Not prepared to do business with people like that.
SO glad i did the deal with Redline: really nice bunch of guys.
They recon I can fit my BST carbons to the RC8. Which.would.be.a.result.

It's getting it's Sigma slipper clutch at first service (part of the deal)
Any advice as to essential mods?
I'm going to go down a tooth on the front - feels like it needs a bit more help.
Thoughts?

RC8R is now in the shop until next weekend.
Riding home yesterday I noticed some smoke at junctions which turned into quite a bit when I got home.
By the time I got to Redline this morning there was loads of smoke and some dripping onto the floor.
I thought it was a pressure sensor in the 'V' leaking but it turns out it is the head gasket leaking oil.
Now in the shop for warranty work and it hasn't even done 250miles yet!
Redline have leant me a Duke 690. So glad I didn't go for the 690R. it's not a bad bike but it isn't for me.
With any luck I shall pick the 8 up on Sunday with it's slipper clutch fitted and the Ventureshield applied.

Does this Ventureshield stuff stop any damage in gravel traps

why, yes: I believe it does! It also stops the bike falling over (I may remove the side stand) and adds an extra 20mph to the top speed.

On another note altogether: bike is fixed! It was a 5p grommet on a pressure switch after all! (Sigh of relief)
Sigma clutch being fitted today and they are seeing if my BST wheels can be made to fit.

Anyone done the CAT removal?
Does it make the bike much louder?
Anyone know anything about the CPR Rottweiler Airbox?
If I can do the CAT removal, improve the airbox and add a quick shifter I think that might be the whole of the mods I would do.

Dave

its a ram / forced air induction so the best you could do would be fit DNA or BMS Filter and Quick shifter just plugs in I believe

Removing the Cat on most modern bikes does make it louder, So you would have to be careful with the RC8 if you wanted to track it. It will also more than likely affect the fueling as well, so a remap would be required.

Why remove the cat? Its not a sloww bike, If it makes it noisier you may have burnt your bridges and stuffed yourself for track days  :roll

CPR/Rottweiler do a ram air airbox for £288 for the RC8R: supposed to improve mid range, torque and increase top end by about 5bhp.

Having said that: I'm going to shelve all that for now.
you are all dead right - no point in getting into it at all.
We'll see if the BSTs will fit.
The sigma is in.
I'll fit a quick shifter and call it quits for now.

Can't a baffle be made for it to reduce the sound? Try Seton Tuning http://www.seton-tuning.com/seton-exhausts as they could probably make a baffle to hold back some of that noise.
