Sat Nav Power Supply

Postby ma1290rky » Sun May 10, 2015 3:49 pm

I'm in the process of wiring up my Garmin Zumo 660. I'm looking for the most suitable power supply that is only live with the ignition on. I thought I'd splice into the LED power supply but looking at it this afternoon I'm not so sure as its three wires and I really do not want to bugger up the LED power.

I've pulled the tank off in anticipation of finding something but nothing obvious.

Anybody already done this job and if so where did you get the 12v and Earth from?

Thanks.

On the 990 there are two auxiliary power supplies behind the headlight mask. One is permanently on the other is only on with the ignition on. Can't see the 1290 regressing so maybe there is the same deal on it. Manual should say if it has this facility.

Thanks - I could see the Heated Grips connector nicely labelled and reminding me I need to fit mine - otherwise nothing that isn't already connected.

There's an ACC1 (Permanent positive for auxiliary equipment) at the fuse box, but I want it on with the ignition so the Fuse 1 (power supply for control units and components) is for me - just need to find where to connect.

Will speak to the dealer this morning.

Pulled the ACC power supply leads from the side of the fuse box and ran two wires neatly up into the headlight area - all good..

Hi All, i hope i can help you.
I've just intalled mine connecting it with the under seat wires. There are 4 wires, two siched with the key (mass and positive) and two with direct power. May be you need to pull them because mine was under the plastic cover.
I will up a pic with the wires.

salut.

There's a good photo in this thread that shows the location of the the two sets of wires. They were buried deep out of sight on my bike.

Has anybody had any issue with the aux power?

I installed this on my bike recently: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ME86YDS/

At first I connected it to the always on ACC wires, but I came back days later to find my battery drained.

So I connected it to the switchable ACC wires instead.

I started up my bike, and the bike didn't sound quite right for some reason. Some extra ticking sounds. So I tried to shut the bike off by turning the key to off. NOTHING HAPPENED.

I literally pulled the key out of the bike, and it was still running. WHAT THE F??

I disconnected the ACC wires, ran the bike again. No problems. Turned the key to off, and the bike shut off.

Anyone have any ideas??
