2014 wheel loose

Postby Wa2fst » Mon Sep 14, 2020 10:55 pm

Im not sure if anyone is even on here anymore.?
At the end of the riding season last year i had my rear wheel wobbling literally like was not secured against the pins.

Got it back to our cabin and i unpinned the nut and the nut was only hand tight. Odd because i always torque it. So i torqued it repinned the nut went riding for a short stint no issues.
Next day i needed a new rear took it to the local guy popped on a rear he torqued it and rode all day. On way back to cabin had this nasty wheel wobble again.. guys behind me could see my wheel rolling all over the place. Got it back to the cabin unpinned it nut was hand tight.

So i was 1st thinking bearings. But that wouldnt cause the wheel to come off the pins. I tore the bike down had the dealer order all new bearings. More i thought about this because the axle doesnt move within the hub. Bearings look great.

Then i thought maybe the nut has been over torqued and the threads are giving?

So what do you guys think? Is it possible the nut is getting torqued past the threads or the threads have no bite in them? So in reality its torqued but nut is slipping over the threads? Is that possible since the nut is pinned in?
I peck on an ipad with 1 finger. Idc about punctuation or capitalization

Not uncommon at all on 2014's. You will likely need a new hub and axle. Plenty of information here and ktmsmt.

Is your locking spring clip installed? That should prevent the nut from backing out.
