Akrapovic full system..why the box/cat?

Postby Hieronymus. » Wed Apr 02, 2014 11:04 pm

I was curious to see if anyone here could offer any thoughts on why there is a box/ replacement cat on the full Akra.
There is nothing like this on the rc8 system..There must be a reason because its certainly not aesthetics.
Perhaps to keep volume down?..It does sound fairly deep compared to the austin racing systems. Not quite so harsh.

It might not be a CAT it could just be a resonance chamber to tune the pulses and allow it to meet track noise limits. Someone in the world must have there hands on a complete system to check.

My guess would be to keep the noise down.

The rc8 full system uses only one silencer, but it's longer than the silencer on the 1290 system, the bigger the silencer the more it silences, the extra silencer in the midle is needed to keep the noise level acceptable.

The race system is fairly quiet from what I've seen and heard is there for that reason.

A normal absorption damper primarily dampens the higher frequencies of the sound spectrum while box or resonance dampers have a bigger effect on the lower frequencies. With singles and twins, the combination of a resonance damper with an absorption damper works best to get an acceptable noise level without losing an unacceptable amount of power.

Thanks guys, much appreciated...Its a shame the AR exhaust is so loud..I don't seem to be able to do super loud pipes anymore. Especially harsh loud.
Deep note loud is not so bad.

Looks like this is the only option for acceptable noise level track use at this time.
Also seems to include filter/sas blanking and map..not looking so ludicrously expensive anymore.

Im with you, I had a AR exhaust on my old Diavel which was great.

I was looking at Akra full systems and for the 1199 and 899 are at least a grand more than the 1290 full system.

I would have thought the low pipe would be insane loud?

do you know which low pipe it was? GP2 or GP3?

The AR VR3 low pipe is loud under hard acceleration and on the over run but at cruising speeds I find it to be quite civil. Quieter than round Akra's on a 990.

The extra box is a resonator - can see straight through it.

Full system is LOUD with the bung out - if the AR systems are louder I don't know how you guys can ride the bike!

So the empty resonator takes the high pitch bark out of the system to allow it to pass track noise tests. I bet the systems that dont have that type of resonator produce a sound that is much higher in pitch and less throaty and will suffer when tested by scrutineers at the tracks. The chamber probably adds to a nice fat torque curve as well.

I'm hoping a de-cat will be brought out similar, with the resonator...

Guys without wishing to hijack this thread just a heads up after reading some posts.
We have designed a new db killer for our exhausts

GP1 can be as delivered with 50mm internals full power 106db down to 101 at 4000rpm if db killer is inserted.
GP3 same as above with V3 end can.

This is the center "muffler" for those that are interested. Fear not its still LOUD.

Nice. How do I get my hands on one of them? I just got my GP1 DECAT today but got it from the Australian dealer bikes connect. I'm going to assume I've got the older insert?

So it's same power as the older one just quieter?

Gotta love the quality of the Akras, but $4k for a single outlet bike exhaust (with $200 worth of bits thrown in)?
And unless you are satisfied with the Akra map (which will be too rich with Oz fuels), you will still be up for a PCV to tune it.
I'll go with a cheaper exhaust option, but will still finish up spending nearly $3K on the bike.
As much as I love the 1290, that is enough coin; it is not a $30k bike.

Yeah bros!

I'll do a ride by with the baffle out and then one with it in for those that were interested. Hopefully get it to the boys to flash the map Saturday and dyno it if they have time.

which tail tidy do you have? will you be using the AR one that comes with your GP1?

would it be possible to take a few pics at different angles of the back please?

I'm running the evotech. Won't be using the one that comes with the exhaust, no need. Clears it fine.

I'll post up lots of photos tomorrow.
