Race windshield?

Postby 08hyper » Wed Jun 11, 2014 5:25 am

Still waiting for my black 1290R to show up here in SoCal USA, and while waiting, I'm getting some accessories together.
I test rode a 1290R & felt that it could use a small windshield to take the wind blast weight off my chest, especially at the higher speeds, I installed a small windshield on my Ducati Hypermotard, and this made all the difference in the world, and really worked well at the track.
So does anyone have one, or know any mfg's that make a windshield for the 1290R? TIA, Aloha Alex

That's one...how should I put it.... Ugly windshield.
Something more like the one on sd990 would be OK thats less "Harley Davidson"

Doesn't sexparty have one of the prototype number plates / windshields on his 1290?

Yeah I got the prototype race mask for track days. Honestly it doesn't do anything more than the OEM headlight. If anyone is after a windshield for track days and racing what you want is the carbon fibre RACEFOXX mask.

If I decide the wind last really bothers me I might try this but when in the full tuck I find it fine to be honest. Unless doing +200KMPH and I've got a headwind. Happy to sacrifice that distraction for looks at the moment.

Are you seriously still waiting, or are you serious about actually getting one?

Did you place a non-refundable deposit somewhere, or is this noise?

I know of some Germans who ordered in December and are still waiting or got theirs a week ago. So he could still be waiting.

You can't upload pics on this site due to space restrictions.
You need to upload to photobucket or similar and post the link.

Is it mounted correctly?
Seems to be out of whack looking straight on.

It depends how you look at it. There is adjustment on it but it moves slightly when you tighten it up.

If it serves the purpose it was bought for then it will stay.

Have you had a chance to ride with it yet? :?:
Does it reduce wind blast? :?:
Any buffeting? :?:
How tall are you? :?:
How's the light reflection from the headlight? :?:
So many questions, sorry, but I'm really looking for something like this and although this one isn't going to make the bike win any beauty contests, if it does the job, that can easily be lived with.

I'll be out on it today and I wil report back although it wont be in the dark

I'm 6ft 2" tall

I feel the same way, if it works then it can be as ugly as sin.

I totally agree that this bike is a bit hard on the neck so I want to find something too and I'm almost tempted but I can't, it's too ugly... Sorry! :(

Been out on it - Verdict:

It definatly reduces the wind blast, you can sit at over 90 without feeling your going to get blown off the back
There is still a little buffeting when you start to get over certain speeds but nothing much, its worse if your following large vehicles at lower speeds
As i said before I'm 6ft 2" so I create quite a large sail
I can see the reflection of the running light in the back of the screen so not sure how much of a problem that will be in the dark

All in all it seems to fo the job

Doesn't look all that bad to me. And if it did bother me, I'd get over it quick too if on a long trip.
