Turns out the Steve Motorcycle Supply screen is a 690 Duke powerparts touring screen with custom brackets.
Met a fellow Superduke owner at KTM Centre in the UK today who had fabricated some brackets himself.
It looked every bit as good as the Japanese version.
I'm hoping I can sort out something similar for my own bike.

Pretty sure they are not the same, the 690 PP screen has a line/ridge down the center, the Steve Supply one does not.

Sully,
I thought that too,but it doesn't seem to affect the look. The 690 screen seems to be very nearly identical in size and shape.Maybe that central ridge is not showing up on the few photos we have access to.

I have 2 Steve supply screens on their way to me right now, yes they are expensive, Had to wait a bit for them as Steve said his fabricator was still making them. Another reason i don't think they are the same as the 690 PP screen. We'll see in a few days, they should be here next week

Here is the screen I have fitted to my bike. I am the guy that hyperbob met at the KTM Centre Hemel Hempstead UK.

SDR1290STEF Glad to see you've mastered the technology of placing pictures on Superduke.net.It's an ambition of mine to do this.
The screen certainly looks the part.
Sully. Also good to read that someone has finally made contact with Steve Motorcycle Supply in Japan.
How did you do it?

I have a good friend that lives in Tokyo, he's Japanese but grew up in London, speaks perfect english
I asked him to actually call Steve supply to find out the deal on these screens.
Apparently its a one man show, really small like most Japanese motorcycle stores.
My friend was told they do not want to do international shipping as they are worried the Chinese will copy their design.
I ordered 2 screens for myself and another friend in LA. Had to wait for the order as they make these one at a time, old school craftsman style.
Once my friend received them, he then shipped to me, currently in customs! Should see them in LA soon.
My friend said he would help get more, but the price is quite high once they are shipped twice & duty which i have no idea what that is yet.
If your not in LA then shipped 3 times, driving the price even higher.

Hi guys,

Maybe I am missing something here but surely the simple solution would be to buy the KTM Powerparts screen for the 690 Duke and have a local fabricator make some neat brackets (or better still make your own if you have the facilities)

Hi hyperbob,i'm not taking the credit for getting the pictures on here that goes to my better half!!! she put them on photo bucket then downloaded them on here,it's easy apparently!!
Hi sully I see what you mean about the line/ridge down the center of the power parts screen but in the flesh it's a smooth curve and is identical to steve's
just without the steve motorcycle supply logo stamped in the middle of it.
Hi HYPERMOTO that's what I've done got the screen part number 760.08.965.044 for £25.00 from my local KTM dealer a flat steel bar from a DIY store
a few spacers and washers longer M5 bolts and a bit of heating and bending in the vice! everyone that's seen it has said it looks really good and suits the bike!

Hi SDR1290STEF, how much of a difference does the screen make when moving at speed? It does look really good.

Hi katoom1290,
it's hard to say if there's any difference at speed because it's the first time out since laying the bike up for winter and fitting the screen,
I took it up to 120MPH then put my left hand just above the dash and could feel the air flowing over the lip of the screen, I will try it with and
without the screen ASAP and let you know, I am not that bothered if there's not much difference as I found wind was not that bad for a naked
bike plus the screen hides that 85mm gap between the indicators!!

:) Nice job Sully, great illustrations.

There is nothing quite so satisfying as a bit of self fabrication eh

I made a taller screen for my 1290 using a modified Honda CB1000 Puig screen and a little self fabrication.

When I get sorted out with a Photobucket account I will post some pics (unless I can share them from my Instagram account??)

Original ones are crap, Never a clear pic due to vibration, and my arms/elbows block the view.

CRG LS are convex, so you more in them, your body parts do not block anything, and they do not vibrate, 1000% better

I have found the following screen Image

Again on a Japanese site and was wondering if our Japanese speaking friend could send an email asking about getting on sent to the UK? Robbie-hk

http://www.rlyoyo.co.jp/ktm/ktm-1290-su ... creen.html

From what I can translate using Google they use an 1190r screen, a custom bracket and a another bracket to relocate the indicators....

Hi Folks,

(apologies for the absence, I've been (a) jungle motocross touring across Cambodia, where there's actually no internet and (b) skiing in Japan until just now. Also buried under catch-up work on my return, sorry.

Do you guys still want this screen :

Greece - 1 (Leonidas)
Sweden - 1 (Shootaz)
Belgium - 1 (Dolores)
Netherlands - 1(prikkie)
UK - 2 (Zei 220, iannowi,
USA - 4 (wmcbride, max78, Sully, BrandonH)
Aus - 3 (hyperbob, 1290Nerd, Don)
Finland - 1 (SDR 1290)
Total 14 units

Or not ? Please confirm.

If the numbers are high enough I'd imagine the vendor could sort his sh*t out enough to (a) start a paypal account and (b) locate the international counter at the post office. How hard can it be ?

Separately today on behalf of Mark, I've sent a query off to Yoyo to enquire about these ones : http://www.rlyoyo.co.jp/parts/ktm-1290- ... uke-r.html

Will let you know the answer when it comes in.

Again sorry for the delay. I drink a lot.

Cheers

Robert
