mileage with full Akra and map?

Postby mrossk » Mon Nov 21, 2016 4:52 am

Hey y'all- I'm wondering if it's common to lose 5 to 10 mpg after installing the full Akra system and map. I'm on my 3rd tank of gas since the change, and I haven't broken 30 mpg, whereas before I was getting 35 to 40. I thought there would be a small drop off, but this seems significant, and wanted to see if its common. Admittedly it's been mostly commuting miles, haven't been out on the open road, but I'm curious for some feedback. What kind of mileage have you all been getting?
thanks,
Michael

I lost 5-10 mpg on mine with spirited riding, so 30mpg not unusual.

But in 5th/6th at 50-60mph, like the bulk of my commute is, I sometimes get 40mpg.

I'm getting about 28 mpg and haven't seen 30. I don't care because the bike keeps the juices flowing, I'm 65. If I need mileage for a long haul I ride one of my other tamer bikes.

Dude, I think Honda San make a bike for mileage (nc700) this bike is for smiles and hooliganisam with a touch of do anything thrown in. Forget the mileage your soul will thank you for it :)

Totally normal. Gas mileage disappears.

Well, anything above about 2.5k revs is pretty smooth for me. 60 in 6th no problem for cruising.

Heh, just bought a 2013 nc700x as my winter bike (the missus believed me that this is a normal thing) . Massive MPG, big screen, DCT, top box and helmet stash in "fuel tank", hot grips, Honda Japan build quality, plus don't give a s**t about road salt, rain, the odd scrape etc. Brilliant, brilliant boring bike.

Coming from an RSV4, the SDR1290 is a gas miser in comparison. Add the bigger tank of the SDR, and the difference in range is phenomenal. I bought new with the full akra at the outset and have never thought of the 1290 as a gas guzzler.

Yes, I see about 28mpg in town. That's with an arrow muffler and mid pipe and stock map. It improves into the 40s on the open road.

From what I've seen (here or elsewhere? Can't remember), the Akra map is quite rich in the lower RPM's (and possible a bit lean up top?), which would mean you'd see worse mileage change around town, than when flogging it.

Yeah mirroring what others are saying. I get 40ish cruising too and from work. But because of a local track I drop my averages into the 30ish range when I've been out there. I noticed my mileage around 23-24 a year ago and realised that with the akra on I kept it in a lower gear so I could listen to it purr. Started keeping it at a lower RPM and my mileage came back a bit. But like others have said the smiles are hard to resist. :D

I've got the Austin Racing full system with Akra flash, so same difference. If I'm cruising on the interstate at 75 MPH, I get 45 MPG. If I'm playing on the backroads, I get about 28-30 MPG. If I'm just riding local roads and commuting to work, 32-35 MPG. MPGs really vary on this bike, more so than any other bike I've owned, and are directly related to how much you twist the throttle.
