OIL LEAK FROM SHIFT SHAFT!!

Postby StuartJ » Wed Jul 26, 2017 11:37 pm

ANOTHER OIL LEAK!! :x
Discovered a slow drip coming from the shift shaft as it enters the gearbox. Only a few drops a day when on the side stand, but still fooking annoying. Has anyone else had this issue with the 2014-2016 models? I had a look at parts diagram and there doesn't seem to be an 'O' ring in the assembly that could go bad. Any ideas what it could be? Thanks

No surprises there, KTM's and oil leaks, they're the modern equivalent of the old Triumph's!

Sorry not much help :(

I think the guys over on the facebook 1290 group have it figured out. Its a bad shaft seal ring, hopefully it'll be pretty straightforward to replace

I just finished fixing an oil leak due to a fissure in the clutch plate.

I wish you luck at solving this cheaply and quickly!

I had a similar, very slight slow leak, mine was from the gear selection sensor seal.

Took me a couple of weeks to find the source because if I was riding every day (or similar) there would be no sign of oil, then as it sat still for a week it would build up enough to drip a couple of drops onto the exhaust, then on start-up it would smoke and smell bad as it burnt off almost immediately. I would ride, then let it sit for a week, forget about it, start the bike and it would burn off and I couldn't find the source.
