K&N Filter question

Postby MaximusVR46 » Tue Jun 12, 2018 8:23 am

My 2014 SD R is standard at the moment (exhaust, SAS. Map etc) it currently has the stock air filter in. Will it be ok fitting a K&N air filter with everything else standard?

Cheers

This might help.

I fitted a K&N to my 2017 SDR which had all the standard parts. It ran noticeably better. I can't see why the 2014 would be that much different.

I think I have a problem?

Yes, swapping to a K&N just means the engine breathes a bit easier. But the major advantage is that they are not disposable so you can clean them. Make sure that anyone doing a service knows this and doesn't throw it away. Personally, I'd seriously consider doing the basic mods of removing the SAS etc and then getting some alternative exhaust. The difference in performance and weight is considerable and if you get an engine map at the end then everything will work well together.

Somewhere there is a download for a manual I put together years ago to illustrate how to fit the Motohooligan airbox. In it there is a step by step guide to removing all the SAS parts etc.
