Anyone replace there 1290 horn ?

Postby rm2092 » Mon Apr 20, 2015 12:34 am

Brand new bike, not even 200 miles on it and as soon as the bike gets hot running around town the horn craps out. Not totally but all I get is a small muffled bleep, let the bike sit and cool off the horn works again until the bike gets hot again running around town. Any suggestions for a replacement horn ?

Maybe you can talk to this guy viewtopic.php?f=29&t=24981&p=309425#p309425 and you can get everyone together having horn problems and do a group buy for this:

Emu whistle is an extra charge. I was happy to hear you fared fairly well considering how it could have came out. A Vicodin and a couple of beers and you'll feel good as new, or just not care

Actually (can't check now) most of these horns have a screw to adjust somewhere. When it's hot just turn it till it works.
If the bike is that new, get a replacement under warranty, it's a safety and mandatory requirement!

Otherwise replace with something a bit louder as they are pretty crappy.

I might install a Stebel like the one I did on my multistrada. Much louder. You'll just have to rig up a custom bracket but that shouldn't be too difficult on a naked bike.

Anyone ever make any progress with this? Now that it's warming up and the bike gets hotter, I often lose the horn while commuting. I don't mind the "crappiness" of the horn, it's enough to get the job done. Any easy fixes? I tried bending the mounting bracket as far as I dare to get it further from the radiator, with no real success. And I didn't see any sort of adjustment screw- does such a thing exist?
Thanks,
Michael

I've added a Denali soundbomb split horn to mine. I put the compressor under the rear seat and got a long piece of compresses air tubing from fleet Farm and ran it under the seat to the horn. It's incredibly loud and works better than expected. I bought the harness too and it's all connected to the standard horn button.

How did you power the horn? The stock horn is a small draw and the Denali and Stebils draw 18A! Any problems with the wiring or fuses?
Babying your motorcycle for it's resale value is like not having sex with your girlfriend so she'll be fresher for the next guy.

The harness for the horn comes with the ability to connect directly to the battery. The horn button itself was used to operate a relay that ran the compressor.

I grounded the wiring harness to a license plate holder bolt inside the trunk.

I had to bend the bracket up front to mount the horn properly too.

Also- I've been using it for 2 years with no issues!

Good luck!
