I have now done nearly 8000km's (ODO = 29000km) and it hasn't missed a beat. The only real issue was the touchy throttle especially mid bend.
I have it mostly sorted no due to a remapping and I now know when to ease off / throttle on when negotiating a bend.
Yes it a bit thirsty at 14-14.5km/L (the same as my old VTR1000) but I love it. As a comparison. my old Blackbird got about 15km/L.
I really havent hammered it though and mostly commute on it (60-80kmh zones). Its a bit high geared (16/40) so not great on the Highway...lol.
I check in here about twice a week nowadays.

Am new-ish to my 990r and am still loving it. Easy to ride, plenty of power, massive grin factor. What more do you need on the road?

I have another Bike for the track though (sorry not a ktm), it has a few more horses.

I was a bit apprehensive before buying one of these due to the rumours surrounding their mechanical reliability but so far have to say i've been impressed.

LONG LIVE THE 990

Hi Billie.

I recognise your avatar and name from a recent post on South West Bikers forum.

I think you were writing on a thread about a ride out to Wales a few weekends ago but then couldn't make it. I went and met a load of guys from Bristol and Somerset.

You're in Cheltenham aren't you?

Mate, I always have a soft spot for Greek Superduke riders because of the provenance of the site and the fact that it was set up by this great Greek guy. We often forget this as the KTM brand has become widespread over Europe, the UK, Australia and the increasingly the US States. But we must never forget that this forum, to discuss the KTM brand, was set up by this passionate Greek. We hold himin great esteem!!

Still here. Haven't ridden the SD muchof late, most of my riding has been on a 99 Blackbird.
Need to get back on the SD, fresh battery just arrived today.

Still have 3 990s in the garage, 2 for sale but the SDR will remain my trackbike for the foreseeable future. Haven't had too many problems once I fixed the common ones (starter sprag, waterpump seals, and fuel pump O rings)on my 06. The SMTs have been superb but we just moved to a farm and had twins. I haven't been on two wheels since October...

I've had my 990 road bike two years this month and the 990 track bike just over 13 months now.... Personally I don't really look at anything else and think "I'd like one of those", with the exception of a 2017 1290 SDR for the road perhaps... Sure, there are a few challenges to easy ownership, like the faff of doing an oil change on a 990 - is the 1290 any more straightforward? For me, it's the fun of being in a pretty exclusive club, rarely seeing another SD on the roads, and wherever I'm stopped, people complimenting the bike, often saying that they really like the SD, and I'm yet to have anyone come up and say they think that SuperDukes are crap. MT-10s? Great idea, excellent engine, very thirsty though, and everyone has one, could end up being the new GS, and Fugly with it!

old school 990 owner here with 07 orange, bought it in 2011, we just keep on rolling…wow time is flying by, and I kept my mouth shut all these years…
Are the kids still fighting over which SD is better, and what about the new GT?

special greetings to SDsteph, perhaps we could finalize the SD rally before we get too old, or I can swing over the river on my Stelvio and you could unleash your Blackbird?

Just over a year into owning my first 990SD and I love, feel I've really bonded with and it sits well in the garage with my Indian for when I need a burst of crazy

I put 30,000 miles minus 666 miles as what we set the new odometer to on my devil bike.
The PO waded it up bad and I rebuilt it with a new frame and bits.

Rode it to work today, love the bike.

Nolanomad in the house.
Reporting form SF Bay Area.

Currently rebuilding the 990 after a crash in 2014(!)

Fixed all the broken bits but now won't turn on. New battery, suspect starter relay(?)
Got one incoming via eBay.

Love the bike, it's my 2nd one, still looking for a repair manual for the '07.
Holla if you have one to download!!!!!

Yeah man, I see one for the '05 but maybe overlooked the '07

If you have a legit one for the '07 I'll take it....

Wrenching all day trying to get her back together.
I ended up calling my local for torque specs and was told "we don't like giving you specs like that, it's a liability issue you know...."

What a hassle...
