1290 spanner for shock adjustment

Postby harold » Sat Aug 22, 2015 10:25 am

I am the US, and our manual says that to adjust the spring on the shock, use the spanner from the tool kit. My kit only had the larger one for the chain adjustment. I was at the dealer yesterday, and when he looked up the tool kit to get me one, it wasn't showing on his diagram. Strange. Did anyone else get this tool in their kit?

The tool kit has 2 C spanners in it. A bigger one to adjust the chain (fits the hub to turn it) and a smaller one for the spring.
The handle for both is separate and is that flattened tube (best way to describe it).

Yes, that is what the manual says is supposed to be there. The dealer couldn't find the smaller one for the shock on his parts diagram to order it, or get it to me out of inventory. I don't suppose you have a part number for it, do you Guy?

Just had a look at the parts manual and it's not on there, stupid as even the KTM orange ball pen is on there.....WTF?
I suggest your dealer goes over the parts from a few dirtbikes as they are the same. My '14 Husky (KTM) uses the same but I don't have the parts manual.
Your dealer can also try the white power suspension parts maybe.

I got one with my 2014 SDR, but I have never used it. I loosen the cinch bolt and turn the nut by hand. You should try it...

Yes!
And did the dealer also stole the KTM pen from the paperwork?

I only have the chain adjuster spanner. Didn't get the one for the shock. I did get the Orange pen, though!

Glad too see I'm not crazy. Just spent the past 20 minutes trying to make this huge ass C Spanner work for adjusting rear preload-- It doesn't. Its too big and my KTM toolkit did not come with the other one. Looks like another amazon purchase.
