Must have been the rim tape?
Frame sliders can only do so much.
Hope you are all good. Is it a write off?

just a few busted ribs, no real issues.

scamb66 that orange rim tape is actually painted onto the rim, that's how the forged marchesini's are finished.

frame and engine are untouched. just all the left side fairings, torn seat, rearset, lh switchblock, lh handlebar, clutch lever, sidestand, scratched tank. not insured so i will be putting my spare track parts on it and have 2 track bikes for the moment until i decide with rc8r to sell.

priced up OEM parts to repair and it was around $5,500 AUD. ouch! my insurance cost per year would have been about $4k plus excesses because of my age, and poor licence history lol.

oh well :P

Yep definitely the same bike. Took a full strip down and about 20 hours and 3 cans of WD-40 to get it clean.
All new plastics and tank repair and original Triumph crystal white respray.
Funny thing is it was cheaper to get all the parts ex-US (Bikebandit) than it was from the UK or Oz.
Still a couple of things to go like a set of Mitas E07 tyres, new chain, hand guards and a rear left hand grab rail to get it ready for rego but other than that it is looking like new.
Got rear ended at 120 km/h by a 1190 Adventure and went sliding 50m down the road. frame, forks and engine were untouched, repaired a few things and rest is new.
Owes me A$8k at the moment but probably worth around the A$11-12k mark. Rides true and is sublimely comfortable.
Plenty of dirt roads around here to explore, so looking forward to it.

Hi there, it seems that you have accidentally ended up with the life that was destined for me, and I'd be keen to get it back. I have your office job, suburban house and 2 children - you can collect them at any time. No hard feelings about the mix-up, let's just get it all sorted eh?

My mate had a Commando like that when I was about 18 and rode an RD250. Can't see if that's the electric start one, (His was) but anyway it vibrated so bad! on tick over it more or less bounced on the spot! Ha ha. Lots of torque though once you got going.

Its a '75 which was the year they came with electric start. This one however never worked since I owned it. The sprag bearing in the starter gear train is the weak point on these. I updated the the wiring harness and added electronic ignition and now the bike is a one kick starter. its my favorite bike of all I have or ever owned.

I had my first go on a Commando (1974 850) last Summer. It was great and I was doing fine with the unfamiliar controls until an old lady pulled out in front of me and in the excitement of the impending collision instead of braking I changed up a gear. Fortunately by luck I missed the car. In spite of that experience I really liked the Cammando. Maybe one day. :D

I have a 73 850 and when it's running right it really is a great bike to ride. Except the brakes. They're awful.

Here is a little something I put together over winter 2013/2014.

I started with a low mileage (3500) 1998 Honda SLR 650 for reliability and added my own twist, 70's style.

I go everywhere on it and I have done nearly 5,000 miles on it so far.
