As the title says you can now buy a much cheaper alternative to the G2 thottle cam.
For those that feel they need it or just want to try it out al you need is to order the RC8R progresive throttle from your KTM dealer for around £16
Part Number: 69002021100
By all accounts on the KTM forum it is working well on the std RC8 and wouldn't surprise me if it matches the favourite cam from the G2
It doesn't have any fancy delrin inserts and that kind of thing but hey it's £16 |

So is it meant to be a "throttle tamer" for the RC8 ?
The G2ergo Delrin inserts... I got mine a few days ago...there's only one Delrin insert - at the throttle housing end of the tube, so it's going to be looser at the other end. Crap, they should put one at the other end as well. So it's hardly a "precision throttle" like those racing ones.
Anyway, I got the 100 cam thrown in for free. Because it took months to get an email reply, their email "crashed" or something. [must be windows.] |

Yes, basically exactly the same as the G2 it slows/lengthens the initial turn and then ramps up for the remaining bit. |

So do you get the same parts as with the G2, except all the cams? How can it be that much cheaper than the G2?
Cheers,
Phil |

As far as I know it's just the function of it that is the same, I assume the parts will be much like the std throttle only with a different profile cam but nobody has compared the two regarding the parts so can't say for sure. |

Sorry to ask so many questions TJ, but do you know if anyone has commented on which G2 profile it relates to, ie 300?
Does this mean you would still have the sloppy fit that the stanard tube has. It's almost worth the price of a G2 to sort that issue!
Thanks for your reply,
Phil |

No worries mate, nobody has compared the two I'm afraid.
The G2 does not fit the RC8 properly as the throttle housing is not tall enough for the taller cams so those that have fitted it have either had to file out the throttle housing or fit an SD throttle housing which means an all in price of about £123 to have the G2, so unlikely they'll bin it after all that to try the ktm one and not enough people have em for anyone to have gotten together for a try of each others setup.
Reports on use though are much the same as the peoples reviews of G2s in that it does help smooth out the initial delivery and make life easier on bumpier roads if that's what you want out of your throttle, one guy has taken his off though as he preffered the agressiveness of the std setup for pulling wheelies etc.
Edit: Can't say while riding that the slack you mentioned has ever bothered me, I think I only notice it when putting the bike away and pushing it in backwards. |

I hate sloppy throttle tubes.
I sat on a Monster yesterday (dunno what it was; it was..red and aircooled, quite small and light)...the throttle tube was so sloppy, like - much worse than the Suzuki 125 next to it. Magura. |

Fitted one of these. Brilliant - problem solved
For £16.30 +vat you get a new throttle tube (orange) and nice new grips (both sides). Bargain !
Slight fitting prob in that the new tube is a bit (5mm) longer than original - 120mm vice 115mm. You'll either have to space out the bar end weight or do what I did - move the switchgear and mirrors inboard.
Makes for a different bike in traffic - much easier to be smooth. |

Does the tube fit the bar better than the original, ie less rattle?

cat yours should have 2 inserts. one at each end of the throttle tube. i bought 2 of them a while ago. 1 for my sd and 1 for my adv. both of them had 2 inserts |

Don't know really. The original didn't bother me so I didn't pay attention to 'before and after'. Sorry. |

This is a bit late but it might be of interest to someone. I brought a G2 throttle (the one with the three cams) and it was brilliant - nice action and dampened the kangaroo hops at certain speeds. It had two Delrin inserts.
Some time later I compared the 300 profile with the original plastic throttle cam and realised that the original could be modified to make it the same as the latter. In fact, all that needs to be done to the original is to use a hacksaw blade to cut a deeper grove into the original cam following the shape of the new cam. Piece of cake really and took about 10 minutes. I gave the modified throttle to a friend who also has a SD and he thinks it is also brilliant.
Having told you that it is possible I'd also encourage people to support G2 because we need folks like that who invest in the R and D that KTM were unable to or chose not to do. I'd hope that the RC8 throttle tamer is licensed from G2. Really we need to support both - within reason |

I've just ordered one of these today, its still only £16.30 plus VAT, Redline holds them in stock.
Thought it would be a good idea after nearly highsiding the thing this morning on the Frost! |

I'm told it makes no real difference to performance, its just the power comes with a little more throttle action.
How did you find it to fit? Any problems? |

well I managed to fit it quite easy! recommended mod to the bike for sure, just got to wind out the throttle slack a little then it will be perfect.
One of the cheapest mods at £20 ish to make the sd easier to ride! |

Getting the old grip off can be interesting! When fitting make sure you slacken off the cables as much as possible and use the opportunity to lube the cables before reassembly. A bit of grease in the throttle assembly cable groove will probably be beneficial, too.
Make sure you take out nearly all the cable slack, run the motor and turn the steering from lock to lock a few times both on idle and revving the engine to make sure there are no tight spots. |
