990 rear sprocket carrier bearings?

Postby RichUK » Mon Apr 22, 2019 3:46 pm

Just doing some maintenance today and noticed the bearings in the rear sprocket carrier are starting to feel a little notchy so will plan on replacing them soon'ish.

Firstly... how do you pull the spacer bushes please?
I tried to lever the front one out (with a blunt knife) but could only just make it move. Do you need to use a bearing puller to remove these or am I just doing wrong?

Next the bearing type, according to online parts diagram the bearings are;

BALL BEARING 6006 DDU2CG23S6NM
P/N: 0625060060

So they are both 6006's and likely 2RS (rubber seals)

One site asks what clearance the bearing needs to be, options are NORMAL CN or CS3.
Anyone know which is suitable or best for use here?

BTW...
KTM want £12.73 each plus shipping...
On Ebay they are about £5 each delivered for a quality brand (SKF), so Evilbay wins.. 8)

Erm thanks.. I guess....

Did you mean to post that link?
If so what has it got to do with the carrier bearings?
All I saw was a guide on how to chop out the dampers.

BTW - what KTM called "Spacer Bushes" are actually just wheel bearing spacers for the axle.

They should just pull out but dam they are in there good!

No idea re bearings and misread post re spacer bushes - page 10-5 of rebuild manual, albeit for Adventure.

Yeh, I saw that section. It suggests using a "special tool" which after looking that up is an expanding type internal bearing puller.

I think I've messed around with drifts for too long wrt to wheel bearings.... bearing pullers have come down in price over the years and I have just seem a slide hammer based version for £20 so I'll just get one of those.

Also I think the bearings are just standard clearance type, so I'll go ahead and get it all ordered. :)
